Trujillo

The last trip we all took as a group was to Trujillo, Spain. It’s a city not far from Cáceres so it was a day trip. Also, it looks similar to Cáceres. Trujillo has lots of rich history. There is a castle located at a very high point in the city which has the most amazing views. The architecture of the castle was influenced by the Arabic style of constructing buildings. The doorways, for example, are shaped in a way that mimics a horseshoe. Also while in Trujillo, we got to see the house of the parents of Francisco Pizarro which has been turned into a museum. In the main plaza of Trujillo, there is a statute of Francisco Pizarro near a church. After visiting some shops in the
main plaza, we walked through the city to the bus station.

The exploration of Trujillo began when we entered the plaza mayor with the grand statue of Francisco Pizarro on horseback which was located just in front of a great church. This city contained this statue as a monument of the Spanish conquistador who sailed across the sea and conquered Peru from the Incans. The day really escalated to a new height when we ventured further into the old town and fortress. We came upon a giant fort on the biggest hill of the city perfectly place to see kilometers in every direction. The Castle was astonishing to tour and see the true quality and strategy of ancient architecture. The fort had multiple layers. The first was a small base layer with walls that provided basic perimeter protection. The real art was in the fort itself which stood tall with perfectly angled slits for archers at each tower on the four corners. The castle also had a center courtyard which contained an underground level. The underground level contained many pillars for support and water at the bottom which I believe would be used to sustain the soldiers if there were a siege on the tower. After the great adventure around the tower we traveled to Francisco Pizarro’s semi-humble abode where he grew up as a child. We were able to see what the original future, kitchen, bedrooms, and what the basic structure of the house was like. As well as read and see many different facts and artifacts that once belonged to the old Francisco Pizarro.
