This week we went Merida and I was very
excited to see the structures that were on this trip. The first place that we
stopped to see was the Acueducto de los Milagros. I loved the view and it was
built to be able to supply water for the Romans. The next thing that I loved
was the Puente Romano. It is said to be the second longest bridge and it is
still very well conserved till this day. This experience has been great and the
most incredible one was visiting the Roman Theatre. I remember back in high
school learning about the Roman theatre and wanting to go to Merida, Spain to
go to visit it in real life. When learning about it 5 years ago I was very interested
in the culture and the story of how the Romans would perform their tragedies
and comedies there by acting. The way
that they seat the people in ima cavea sections by social class, the highest
class being the closest to the stage. The middle cavea being called media
cavea, and the low class usually with women and their children is called the
summa cavea. Back then in the year that
this roman theatre was built the romans did not usually like to go to the
theatre but they ended up going and liking it for entertainment. For the actors
it could only be men. There would not be any women actors. So the men had to
wear masks to represent the women role in the tragedy or comedy. This was a
great experience and I fell in love with the city. There is so much to see that
has so much history in its structures. It was incredible to be able to see all
of it.
