Merida

Haley Sandman
Week 1
This trip to Mérida was perfect. Taking the train from Cáceres to Mérida was a cool experience! One of our missions was to find the train station, which was fun in itself.  The train ride wasn’t too long, which was nice. When we were nearly at the train station in Mérida, we got to see the aqueduct which was truly a beautiful sight. After getting off the train, that's the first place we walked to. We got a lots of information and history about the aqueduct and were allowed to take pictures in front of it. After that, were walked past a lot of fascinating sights on the way to the Roman bridge and the Wall of the Citadel which were both incredible sights. Then we walked through the streets and went past some really cute shops and places to eat. We stopped at the Temple of Diana where we got lots of information about it. It was very well preserved and was beautiful. After that, we visited what I believe to be the most impressive and beautiful structure in Mérida – the Roman Theater. It was just breathtaking. We were told a legend about the part of the structure that was exposed many years ago. After taking pictures from the top of the seating for the theater, were moved down father in order to test the acoustics of the theater. One of the girls in our group was brave enough to sing top us from the stage, which was interesting because we could hear her even though she didn't have a microphone. After the theater, were went over to the amphitheater where we got to see where gladiators fought many years ago. After this, were visited a roman museum and went to shops after that. The train ride back to Cáceres was quick and it seemed like we were back in no time.
