Trujillo

Trujillo

We left for our day trip to Trujillo on a hot Thursday. Our bus took us to the small, historical city filled with lots of interesting history and beautiful architecture.
The main stop on our trip was to the Trujillo castle. This castle was built between the 9th and 12th centuries. The castle sits at the highest point in Trujillo. This aided anyone fighting from Trujillo and gave them the higher ground. They were able to see armies coming well in advance. We spent awhile looking over the city from the castle. The view of the city from the castle may have been strictly strategic, but it was also incredible.
We also visited the house of Pizarro. We learned a lot about Pizarro’s style of ruling and how he conquered the Incas. The museum was helpful because it gave us an idea of what everyday life looked like in that time period for a ruler in Trujillo, Spain.
After we toured the city and learned about the history within Trujillo, we found a restaurant and ate lunch. While we were eating, we met a group of American students studying in Trujillo. We used the five minutes we had to quickly compare stories and found that our experiences were not completely different. They call their host families mom and dad, just like we do, their spanish is improving, they like ice cream, they enjoy spending time as a class, and they are enjoying every moment of being in Spain. It did not surprise us to find a group of people completely different from us that had so much in common with us in regards to studying abroad. This life-enriching experience is unmatchable and it was great to meet other students that feel the same way.
