The
Spanish lifestyle is by far very different to the American one. For the most part, I feel as if Spaniards are
more laid back about life. They don’t
seem to always be in a rush, as us Americans usually are. In fact, they don’t
even work a 9-5 shift job like most of us do.
For the most part, the businesses open at about 9 or at times even at 10
and then at mid day they close the stores, usually 2-5 and they do this so that
everyone could go home and have lunch with their family. Not your typical
American lunch either, lunch is Spain is by far the most important meal of the
day. So you probably won’t find anything
open, besides restaurants, open at this time. This might be a little hard to
adjust to since we are not used to that back home. Public transportation is also very important
here in Spain-almost everyone uses it, and quite honestly, it is not as bad as
it seems. Meeting up with friends is much easier here than back home. It is so
fast and convenient to meet up at any local bar or café to have a cup of
coffee.
Studying
abroad was by far the best thing that I have done. It was great to actually learn the culture by
living with a family. Not only did I
practice my Spanish with them, but I was able to learn more about their
culture, traditions and customs.
