Title: University classes

BY Marianna
While in Caceres, we attended the Universidad de Extremadura. We had classes Monday through Thursday from 9:30- 11 a.m. The school was very nice. On the third day attending the school, we received a tour from three students who attended and got to see the different parts of the university. I would have to say that the school was a little bigger than Purdue Calumet because we weren’t able to see the whole campus. When looking out the windows, you would see fields and mountains, unlike what you would see in Hammond.
On an average day, we would take the bus to school and get there around 9:15 and sit and talk with each other before classes started. Then at 9:30, classes would start and the classes would divide. At 11, we would have a 20- 30 minute break where we would all go to the café in the building and sit and drink a café. The café had many different foods to choose from. They had donuts and pastries, coffee, different Spanish sandwiches, candy, pop… the list went on. It was nice to just sit and have our break all together and talk. After our little break, we would resume classes until 12:30 and then we were done for the day. Some days we didn’t attend school because we went on field experience trips instead.
We were really lucky to have been there while we were and we got to see a fiesta that the school put on. We got to see traditional dances performed by the students which were really interesting. There was music, dancing, and drinking. It was something we really enjoyed because at Purdue, you could never see something like that.

For one of our field experience actives, we got to go to a class where the students were majoring in English and we got to interact with them. They spoke English and we spoke Spanish. It was interesting to talk to them because you got to see how people your own age are in Spain. They told us what they liked to do for fun and things we could do in Caceres.
Overall, the time we spent at school didn’t even feel like we were in class. The university just had a different vibe to it, a lot different than Purdue. Here are some pictures of the school…
This was one of the views from the tour that we had.
