Week 3 by Jenna Zubik

This weekend in Cáceres, I experienced la feria.  There so many cultural differences compared to the county fair in the United States. However, the fair here in Spain is so much more exciting! Unlike America, it is common to take a bus to the fair in Spain. This is different because at home I am used to getting in my car and going. When I was younger, finding a ride to the fair was always difficult, but that would not be a problem here. Also, in America, every town throws their fair and then there is the county fair. In Cáceres, people who did not live here spent the weekend out here just for the fair. The fair was so lit up and beautiful. You heard music as soon as you stepped in. Like America, there was little shops that held jewelry and other hand made items. Nevertheless, out here there was some stands that were selling gym shoes  in which is very uncommon back at home. Another main difference is public drinking. In Cáceres, it is common to bring your own alcohol to the fair and stand around socializing. Without a doubt, that would not be accepted back home. After standing around and socializing, around three a.m. everyone goes into the clubs and dance until the sun rises. This amazed me since at home we have a beer garden in which people listen to live music, drink, and dance but it did it compare to this. It was so touching how everyone got a long and was there to have a great time. Fairs are normally full of drama and physical fights. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming to each other. It was beyond beautiful and such a unique experience.
